Abstract
The article outlines and focuses on the main problem issues regarding classification and functioning of heterogeneous ethnonymic names in Romance, Germanic, Slavonic and other languages. Besides of metonimization of ethnic and derivative ethnonymic names, attention is concentrated on ethnopholisms representing national stereotypes,
as well as on other expressive ethnonyms. Another part deals with phraseological units with ethnonymic components, which reflect in a peculiar way certain features of ethnical mentality.
