Abstract
The article attempts to comprehensively cover the history of medicine and healthcare in the fortress town of Grodno during the First World War based on the analysis of home historiography of recent decades on the topic. The paper presents general characteristic of the available material and human resources of the healthcare of the fortress town as well as information about medical institutions of the town and its sanitary condition in 1914-1915 years. The activities of civilian and military authorities along with a number of charitable institutions aimed at supporting the medical institutions in their efforts to preserve the health of the town residents, military personnel of the fortress and numerous refugees are analyzed.
