Abstract

The paper examines the history of graffiti and includes a chronology of its development, which is divided into five periods. It is determined that since the beginning of the twenty-first century, commercialization of graffiti has appeared in various sectors of the economy. This paper focuses on graffiti as an element of street art and as an attractive tourist object. An analysis of international experience of the use of graffiti in the tourist sector shows the promising outlook and future potential regarding tours that involve education, special events and entertainment. The author describes the various types of graffiti and emphasizes that modern legal graffiti objects should be defined as cultural tourist resources. The paper shows that graffiti as a tourist object is defined by its informativeness, eventfulness, uniqueness, colorfulness, social orientation, accessibility and its short life cycle. The informativeness and colorful nature of graffiti has created tourist interest in these objects. The uniqueness, accessibility and short life cycle are factors that have an impact on the stimulation of tourist demand and the intensification of tourist flows to locations with popular graffiti objects. The social orientation of graffiti is determined by the content of its images, and the eventfulness reflects the dynamic mood of society. These characteristics of legal graffiti should be considered when creating and conducting tours and establishing travel routes. The author's definition of "graffiti tourism" should be understood as specialized, socialized or commercialized travel, with visits to legal graffiti objects in order to meet the cognitive, psychological needs of tourists. The paper identifies how mobile applications, interactive maps and guidebooks have been developed to popularize existing graffiti objects and to promote them to the market, thus confirming the crucial interest in this type of street art and demonstrating that the use of effective market positioning will allow the establishment of long-term interest in graffiti tours.
