Abstract
The purpose of this research is to gain an in depth understanding of exactly the effect of hole accuracy on carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite micro drilling process towards machining performance. The 2 flute drill bits with diameter of 0.9mm were used in this experiment. Before the experiment, the range of parameter such as spindle speed and feed rate were identified. The previous journal is referred as a guide to decide the parameter that suitable to be used. Range of spindle speed for this experiment is 8,000β12,000 rpm and feed rate were 0.001β0.015 mm/rev. To ensure the setup procedure are correct, pilot test was carried out by using a parameter that has been decided. Furthermore, Taguchi and Full Factorial method also be used in this experiment. Taguchi method was used to narrow down the optimum range of parameter and Full Factorial method was used to identify the optimum parameter. Next, the drilled holes on the CFRP composite was analysed to measure it accuracy. Finally, the significant result was identified from the result of hole accuracy of Full Factorial method. The result showed that the drill hole produced in better accuracy with the value of spindle speed is 11,015 rpm and 0.01 mm/rev for a feed rate. The result proved that by using a higher spindle speed with a lower feed rate were resulted a better hole accuracy.
