Abstract

The emission characteristics of a 4 stroke, single cylinder spark ignition engine was investigated with different Gasohol (ethanol+gasoline) blends. Ethanol can be used in S. I. engines as ethanol blended which can be allowable up to 15% in composition for suitability with properties of gasoline. Due to its easy miscibility with Gasoline which is having a higheroctane number. In this work the investigation was kept limited to the low (E5, E10 & E15) Gasohol blends which were tested on a 125cc S.I engine of an existing model (Glamour). The exhaust emission parameters like CO and HC are recorded. The results of this investigation prove the applicability of low ethanol blended Gasoline as clean fuel to reduce CO, and HC emissions. Also performed the simulation for gasoline fuel through Lotus Engine Simulation software and obtained performance parameters such as Brake power, Indicated power, Brake thermal efficiency, Indicated thermal efficiency and these results are compared with manual calculation by considering engine specifications.
