Abstract
Over the last decade the automotive component industry has steadily expanded. Automation of the manufacturing processes has spurred an increase in the part output levels, which has also led to a major quality improvement. Automation has also made a major contribution to an increase in the production rate, as well as to the process efficiency and durability of the products obtained in the manufacture of spiral tubes used in control cables usually used for lock, brake, glass handling, etc. Currently, the manufacturing process of these components can be carried out in a fully automated manner which demonstrates the importance of automation in this field. This work aims to present the creation of a new solution for transporting ducts along an automated production line, where several operations are carried out on the spirals of the control cable, including cutting, deburring, punching of terminals at the ends and installation of a tube starter, to sample noise during operation. A revolutionary transport system of the key by-product (conduits) has been built along the route, which has a much higher reliability than previously reported, even the set-up time by 97%. The machine stoppages were also greatly decreased due to issues with the distribution phase of the conduits. The solution found is extremely simple and economical, allowing multiple parts already used in the previous solution to be reused, with the consequent resource re-use benefits. It can be easily generalized to other related production processes as an economical solution, causing very appreciable productivity gains.
