Abstract
In this work, we will study the influence of geometric parameters on the aerodynamic and mechanic behavior of a new vertical axis wind turbine design of the Darrieus type. The study will mainly deal with the impact of the number of blades and the pitch angle of the sinusoidal blades on the produced power and level of stress. A new wind turbine design has been developed by integrating a mechanical system for varying the pitch angle. The shape of the cam was produced by a mathematical analysis in order to optimize the performance of the wind turbine. Then, a two-dimensional Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses have been performed on a 2, 3- and 4- straight blades, for zero and sinusoidal blade pitch angle varied between -23.41° and 23.41°.
