Abstract
In this article it is considered the hegemonic character in the contemporary museums and in the different alternative practices of museality that represent the project Arica Square Neighborhood Museum, located in one the historical neighbourhoods in the north of Iquique city, Chile. The goal of this is to present the theoretical ideas to boost an intangible heritage museum of a community. The breadth of its opening announcement, helped by the power of the word museum, shows its classic and hegemonic past that still stays in the society, and by the unknown of its practice, that is established from the movement of the new museology (1970), and recently in Latin American experiences of the XXI century that are defined as museotopia and performative museums.
