Introduction into the Scientific Circulation of Foreign-language Scientific and Technical Documents of Fonds of CSSTA of Ukraine: Problems and Investigations

The purpose of the publication is to highlight the state of processing of foreign language documents from the fonds of the Central State Scientific and Technical Archive of Ukraine. The main problems of detection, processing, identification and attribution of such documents, their correct recording in the inventories are characterized in the article. The specifics of involvement in the scientific-reference apparatus: databases, catalogs, registers, etc. are noted. The methodology of research is based on the integrated application of general scientific and special scientific methods, namely on the analysis and research of sources of scientific and technical information, systematization of data. The scientific novelty of the article is due to the source value of foreign-language documents for the studying of the history of science and technology in Ukraine and abroad. A comprehensive search revealed a significant linguistic and geographical diversity of documents in the fonds of the CSSTA of Ukraine. The available documentation has different layers of source information, allows to establish the facts of exchange of science achievements of domestic and foreign scientists, to investigate the integration of developments into the industrial potential of other countries. Examples of project, design and technological, patent foreign language documentation, foreign language documents of fonds of personal origin in the CSSTA of Ukraine are given. The perspective of further studies requires more detailed identification study of this category of archival documents, the creation of a scientific-reference apparatus. Conclusions. The CSSTA of Ukraine stores a considerable volume and types of scientific and technical documentation array. The started work on the research of foreign-language scientific and technical documentation will contribute to a more complete study of diverse phenomena and processes of development of science and technology.
