Abstract

This study deals with the semantic development in the languages attributed to the general public in the Al-Ain dictionary of Farahidi (d.170 AH). It is chosen as a subject for study from among the dictionaries as it is the closest linguistic dictionaries to the time of protest. The study explains the what is intended by the public and their language, and they are not the non-cultured, but they are the educated who entered on their tongues vocabulary common on the tongues of people in their society, and used the same them in the way that used in their society. The descriptive and analytical method is used in this study, and it is concerned with collecting and analyzing scientific material from Al Ain's lexicon. To demonstrate the impact of semantic development, depending on the evidence of linguistic protest. The study showed that the semantic development in what was attributed to the general public in terms of the lexicon of Al-Ain came in twenty-one words, which are distributed over the semantic development in the grammar of word composition, which comes in four vocabulary, and the semantic development affecting the meaning, which comes to be specific in five vocabulary and it comes to the generalization in one phrase: (dinner time), and it comes from one domain to another, in eleven words
