Abstract
In gearbox design, selecting reasonable design parameters for gearboxes has been challenges since this affects the size, mass, and cost of gearboxes. This paper presents the evaluation of the effects of the experimental parameters on the output responses based on the gearbox mass of three-stage bevel helical gearboxes. The gearbox mass is determined by the main components of the gearbox such as gears, shafts, and gearbox housing. The output responses are obtained by minimizing the gearbox mass based on the condition of the moment equilibrium of a mechanical system. A screening experiment was carried out with eight experimental parameters. This experiment selected the parameters and the interactions that have significant influences on the output responses. By using the regression analysis, mathematical models of the responses were established and carefully evaluated. The results demonstrate that the proposed models are highly fit to the experiment data. For this, these models can be simply applied for calculating the transmission ratios of the three-stage helical gearbox with more economic efficiency.
