SOCIAL ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES OF TRANSMIGRATION PLACEMENT IN KALAMPANGAN SUB-DISTRICT, CENTRAL KALIMANTAN

This research was an effort to find out the social consequences of transmigration placement in Kalampangan Sub-District, Central Kalimantan. The Phenomena of rapid change which was happened in the area of transmigration object especially the changing aspect of the social was the object of this research. Research methodology was descriptive, qualitative with the design of phenomenology. Data was collected trough interview, observation and documentation. The result of this research were: 1) The role of public figure toward the change of social structure in the community of transmigrant was that they could play their role in formal and informal institution. 2) The role of public figure toward the change of culture was through the modernity of technology and the fusion of original culture thus creating a diffusion of culture as a complement to the local culture. 3) The role of public figure in the social interaction in the community of transmigrant was through the social interaction which became a requirement in community to facilitate their work. Major proposition the role of the public figure in the transmigrant community toward the social change depending on the modernity of technology, education and ability which improved community prosperity, hindering disbeliefs and culture collision.
