Abstract
Power is the critical and important component of infrastructure and it plays a major
role in the nation's economic development. For the sustainable growth of Indian economy, the development of necessary infrastructure is very essential. The electricity sector in India, before liberalisation was based on an outmoded framework which is governed through the in-efficient government institutions. The energy sector in India used to suffer with either investment issues or the fuel issues. The article focuses on the impact of liberalisation on the growth and development of Indian power sector. It discusses the highlights of liberalisation scheme and its impact and also the hindrances which the power sector is having and how they are hampering the growth of Indian economy
