Abstract
This study is an attempt to understand the brick industry in Assam taking reference of the study area, namely, Demow subdivision in the Sivasagar district of Assam. The study is an effort to highlight the socio-economic and working condition of the workers working in the brick manufacturing firms in Demow of Sivasagar district. It is an attempt to focus on the various issues relating to both the owners and the workers conditions, work life, the problems they face ans other socio-economic parameters. The significance of this study is that it reveals a total position of the brick industry in the area and the issues yet to be addressed. In this regard, the research studies could have enough resources to highlight what is happening and what yet could be done in the field. Policy makers and the concerned authorities will be able to collect enough inputs and data which could be better utilized while framing policies for the welfare and development of this industry.
