CHALLENGES FACED BY TEACHERS IN IMPROVING TEACHING PERFORMANCE FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Abstract

The study was for elementary school teachers to review their work and to plan how they can help to solve the problems of teachers facing advocacy of effective training for a teacher facing major challenges to deliver the knowledge and ability to support the success of the students. Teachers with low level of teaching work in a bad attitude. This study examined the challenges faced by teachers in improving teaching performance for elementary schools. The study was conducted in Tehsil Gujranwala. All elementary schools of Qila Didar Singh were the population of this study. The sample of the study was all (6) schools of study area. All teachers were the sample of the study. There are total 72 teachers in selected schools. Data were collected by using a well-structured interview schedule. The data were analyzed by using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Teachers have to deal overcrowded classes (83%) and burden of extra responsibilities (77%) from head teachers is also a problem for them. In this context, behavior of head teachers and administration was also faced by the teachers. In Pakistan teachers do not have the opportunity to refresh their knowledge and there are no refresher courses introduced according to the need of teachers. Further teachers use audio visual aids (81%) in the class but the time of classes were short and not according to the course contents. Proper physical facilities: computer (36%), internet, library (34%), inadequate instructional resources (44%) for teaching and laboratories are not available. However, some factors that influence the performance of the teachers were syllabus was not according to their interest, instructional resources, overcrowded classroom, limited resources for activities, ineffective communication, stress due to wrong distribution of subjects, school administration, official problems, proper rules and regulations, poor infrastructure, social activities of school, extra-curricular activities, communication skills of student, parents involvement in school, improper use of teaching aids and school discipline
