Abstract
The Prime Minister launched Saakshar Bharat Misson, a centrally sponsored scheme of Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL), Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GOI), on the International Literacy Day, 8th September, 2009. This mission aims to further promote and strengthen Adult Education, especially of women, by extending educational options to those adults who having lost the opportunity of access to formal education. It is necessary to evaluate the programme to ascertain whether the adult learners could react and derive from the programme and also to know physical progress of the adult education programmes so far conducted in the state specially Dhemaji District where the SBM Programme was implemented. The current research work done about the adult education programmes conducted in Dhemaji District of Assam which would help in studying and analyzing the implementation of the SBM and also to analyze the opinion of the Prerakas, Volunteer teachers and adult learners regarding the various aspects of the adult education programme so far conducted in the district
