Personality of N. I. Storozhenko in the anniversary collections: a biographical and historical-cultural context

Abstract
The article first collected, systematized, and analyzed the memoirs of contemporaries about Nikolai Ilyich Storozhenko (1836–1906), an outstanding literary critic, professor, head of the Department of General Literature at Moscow University, one of the most famous Shakespeare scholars of the late XIX - early XX centuries, published in anniversary articles and a collection in his honor (“Under the Banner of Science”, 1902). A native of Ukraine, he studied and worked at Moscow University, was a librarian of the Rumyantsev Museum. Memoirs make it possible to find out many aspects of his life and work, which even now remain insufficiently studied. The publication whose heroes are not only Nikolai Storozhenko, but also his scientific works, the environment in which he was, common acquaintances, the era of which he was a part, small homeland. It emphasizes not only literary, but also the socio-cultural context of its activities. Unconditional respect for the scientific work of Nikolai Storozhenko in his memoirs is combined with an indication of his merits for his native land. It has been proved that jubilee articles, collections, memoirs on the celebration of anniversaries show great interest and respect for the scientific and teaching activities of Nikolai Storozhenko, emphasize the uniqueness of the scientist's creative and human talent, as well as the importance and relevance of his work. They have the first attempts at scientific and biographical coverage of the life and work of a figure; they can serve as a valuable source for highlighting the role of the Ukrainian intellectuals in the cultural life of Russia, as well as for studying the views of the authors themselves and the historical features of the time.
