Abstract
Speed breakers in shape of bumps are often used on roads in order to restrict the speed of vehicles for safety reasons. In the present study we study the motion of a vehicle using a 2- DOF quarter car model as it moves over two different kinds of bumps. The first bump is considered to be rigid while the second bump has a flexible top surface. The motion of the sprung mass of the quarter car model is compared for the two cases in terms of its displacement, velocity and acceleration. It is found that although the displacement is significantly reduced the acceleration of the sprung mass becomes more severe
