Abstract
In this paper, we proposed an improved and efficient zone division clustering algorithm for MANET. Dynamic nature and mobility result in a frequent change in MANET topology, make the network unstable, and cause link failures which result in packet loss, congestion, and network disconnection. These constraints are widely analyzed to increase the stability and lifetime of MANET. In this paper, we focus on developing an efficient hybrid clustering algorithm using ACO techniques, it discovers optimum paths with less energy consumption to route packets between two end nodes. The performance of clustering depends on the selection of cluster heads. Clustering the cluster heads increase the performance of the network. To increase the performance we divide the entire MANET region into four equal parts, each part is known as a zone and has a zone head, which manages the cluster heads in that zone. To increase the stability and lifetime of the proposed algorithm we optimized the critical deciding factors of MANET. The proposed work is tested in the NS-2 Simulator and compared with the existing clustering algorithms. The comparison result shows that the proposed algorithm performs relatively high about network stability, life-time, cluster formation, energy consumption, packet delivery ratio, ondemand re-clustering, end-to-end delay, traffic, and throughput.
