Abstract

Wind energy is a form of renewable energy that is produced from sources that do not deplete or can be replenished within a human's lifetime. The wind is caused by uneven heating of the earth's surface and earth's rotation. Drastic environmental changes had led to the search for more environmental-friendly sources of energy. The wind is a viable option as wind is abundantly available in nature. An extensive and detailed study was done to understand wind energy principles and its technology. Along with wind energy, solar energy plays a vital role towards power generation. The possibilities of installing a wind turbine integrated with solar as a hybrid system on highway dividers and in urban areas is the main aim of the project work, for which detailed research was carried out on the types of the turbine and it was decided to select Vertical Axis Wind Turbine as the renewable source which is relatively simple to implement in urban areas on ground or/and building-roofs integrated with solar. The primary objective of the project work was to design and analyze a small-scale Hybrid solar and VAWT which can be used to meet the power for low demand applications.
