Abstract
Getting lost when entering a new place is a common problem faced by people. For instance, when students enroll at the University for the first time, they typically have a difficult time in finding places and locating their classrooms inside the faculty. In this paper, a study to procure the user requirements for developing an indoor map locator mobile application was conducted. A focus group study was conducted using interview method and questionnaire with 13 UPM's students divided into three groups with the aim to: (1) understand students' experience on finding places in UPM and locating their classrooms inside faculty; (2) empathize with their feelings when they lose direction inside of the faculty; (3) identify the consequences on students when they faced difficulty in navigating inside of faculty. The findings from the focus group interview becomes the basis for the solution that is proposed to overcome the challenges of locating venues indoor. An indoor map locator mobile application using an augmented reality (AR) which implements the tour guide-concept is proposed. The architecture of the proposed indoor map locator is also presented.
