Abstract

The study aim to examine the role of school management committee of Tezpur, Assam. The researcher followed Descriptive Survey method for conducting the present study. For selecting of sample, the researcher has used Purposive sampling design while conducting study in this particular block. The researcher has purposively selected five Government aided school from Tezpur block of Tezpur District. A school information sheet is used to elaborate information about the school. And a Self developed interview schedule is used as tool of data collection to obtain information from DEO, head teacher and Focus Group Discussion with SMC members based on objectives of the study. The field study reveals that only 37% SMC members have received training on their roles and responsibilities. A large number of the School management committee members had not received any training on their roles and responsibilities. The findings of this study, it can conclude that the members of School Management Committees (SMC) are actively involved in monitoring the activities of the school like monitoring the attendance of the teachers. It is found that the involvement of SMC members of rural schools is less than the urban schools
