Abstract

Agricultureis the most backward and less productive sector of Georgian economy. This sector is far behind by value added per employee(by labor productivity) to other sectors of economy by 7,9 times, to the average indicator of country's economy by 5,2 times, and to the level ofthe yearof 1988 – approximately by 2,3 times. For a long period of time the agrarian sector has been in the role of “step-child”, it did not have an appropriate attention and basically had no funding. Because of these, the country's self-reliance levelby agrarian products is only 40%while foreign trade deficit of agro-food products reaches annually almost 0.5 billion US dollars. Despite the increased support from the state in recent years, allocations in the agrarian sector are far behind to the share of this sector in the country's economy; such kind of unpleasant situation is also by foreign direct investments and by getting credit loans from credit institution. Georgian drop back to the advanced countries per capita by subsidy is 2.5 times more than by economy. For developing the agrarian sector it is necessary to carry out purposeful, complex measures, which implies financial aids from abroad and investments. The activities belonging the mentioned sphere are the following: making further reduction of prices on credit resources and state subsidies, coping with the problem of partition of lands, equipment with modern technologies, machine tools, and development of material-technical base, giving state lands to Georgian citizens, also promotion and branding of unique and famous agro products.
