Abstract
Home automation is a technology of controlling several devices at home by any technique. Interfacing all of your home devices from one place has enormous convenience to every user and incorporating a door lock system to maximize home security. This study shows the best approach to have Wireless home automation and security system (WHASS). The system is designed for the homeowners or users to feel secured and comfortable as the only way to open their door is by using registered RFID tag cards in the system, and they can easily and comfortably control their home appliances using an infrared remote. The design consists of Arduino, Infrared receiver, RFID card reader, relay, and different loads such as magnetic door lock and lamps. In this study, the RFID card reader is used to read the RFID tag registered card, and the Arduino will control the magnetic door lock either to open or close. IR based wireless communication is used for controlling home appliances. Commands are sent to the controlling system using and IR based remote control for controlling any home or office appliances. Photos of the tested prototype, a schematic diagram of the control system, and the flowchart on which the Arduino script is developed are shown. The operation and user-interaction of the actual system are also described. Data are also tabulated with the given results. The control system program is written such that the Arduino process the inputs from RFID and IR receiver to control the entire system.
