Abstract
In this article, FACTS devices are optimally located in the power system using evolutionary algorithms. The proposed method optimises the location of the FACTS controllers, their form and rated values at the same time. The FACTS family includes the Thyristor Operated Series Compensator Series (TCSC), Shunt Static Compensator (STATCOM) and the Combined Power Flow Controller Series and Shunt Unit (UPFC). The algorithms proposed are extremely successful methods to select and locate FACTS devices optimally to increase the power efficiency of power systems. The proposed algorithm was applied to the bus system IEEE-30.
