Abstract

The article is devoted to the genre and the process of meaning by means of genre markers in the coordinates of narrative categories, among which the key place is given to narrative strategies. The relevance of the research is determined by the direction of scientific research in the field of modern literary studies to study the determining constants of the functioning of the literary text. The aim of the article is to clarify the characteristics of the semiosis of the genre in correlative relations with the functional and communicative features of the narrative, which allows the example of the legend “Al-Issa” A.I. Kuprin to identify and describe the genre affiliation of a literary text, based on the classification of prototypical genre narrative strategies proposed by V.I. Tyupa. The research methodology is determined by the multilevel nature of the genre category: a set of methods includes hermeneutic and receptive methods, as well as methods of theoretical poetics. The analysis suggests that determining in terms of qualification of the genre is not only the genre content and properties of the plot. Belonging to the genre finds a consistent explanation in the recognition of narrative strategies that the author implements in a particular literary text. In the legend of “Al-Issa” we revealed a synthesis of narrative strategies of the proto-genres of legend and parable, which generally corresponds to the ontology of the genre. The referential competence of discourse in unity with the ambivalence of its representation in a literary text can also come into play as an indicator of the semiosis of the genre. Hero, subject to fate, marks the fatalistic world; in the case when he makes a certain choice (first of all, between good and evil), such a world acquires dualistic features. Self-determination of the hero is the result of the implementation of the model of the individualistic world, which is not the goal of all genres. The genre of the legend, including literary, is correlated with such a world of individualism dialectically: the choice can be made in the space of the parable
