Abstract
The article is devoted to the concept of interpersonal adaptation as a characteristic of positive communication. Communicative adaptation is defined as a conscious or unconscious adjustment to the addressee, which is expressed in choosing an appropriate form of interaction favourable for both interlocutors in the context of current situation. Adaptation to the interlocutor is described as a complex interactional process, which is intentional, activity-based, dynamic, interlocutor-oriented, generated by the situation, congruent and effective. These characteristics can be regarded as its constituent features
