Abstract
The article deals with pecularities of event models representation in modern English political media discourse on the material of social&political and economic newspapers and magazines, and publications on an online news and social networking service Twitter. Within the frameworks of the given article the analysis of situational models on the basis of Dell Hymes's research model was conducted. The author concentrates on the specific character of making and functioning of models in different types of media texts: it was found out on the basis of conducted analysis of modern English publicistic texts of social&political and economic nature that such components as “Setting and Scene» and «Act Sequence» tend to serve as the dominant ones, as the author strives to represent a situation in text in the most complete and objective manner, whereas the components «Key» and «Instrumentalities» are supposed to be dominant in texts posted on Twitter. It can be explained from the point of view of author's intentions and possibilities to highlight an entertaining character of the texts within the frameworks of this particular service. These texts are remarkable for their vivid emotional character; evaluation in this kind of texts is also supposed to be more subjective. Such specific characteristics of media texts as interdiscursivity, intertextuality and irony are also present in the texts under analysis. According to the conducted linguistic analysis it was discovered that the author of the text makes a choice of special linguistic means according to his intention and a certain set of characteristics which are specific to a definite type of discourse
