Abstract
The term sustainability is often used and has different depths of understanding, as shown in the literature review. The common finding of the latest research in this field is that sustainability can no longer be ensured only through economic development, but also that the dimensions of society, ethics and environmental responsibility must be included.
This paper investigates the problem of realised sustainability in our life. The paper shows that current education provides weak sustainability knowledge to the pupil, and findings confirm that the understanding of the sustainability concept is still to more established in high schools even in Europe. The synthesis work brings opportunities for greater involvement of young people in understanding responsible life, which meets the definition of sustainability. At present, there is still a large gap between the demands of the times (climate change, the refugee crisis, COVID-19) and measures that would lead to sustainability.
