Abstract

Lean aims at the identification and elimination of waste. Eight waste includes transportation, inventory, motion, the waiting time, over-processing, overproduction, defects, unutilized talent of the people. The waste in transportation includes inbound and outbound logistics, unnecessary movement of material which is normally a huge cost Agile is adapted by many industries in India. A combination of LM and agile was studied by Bruce and Daly (2004). The difference between LM and agile is mainly the focus of top management Indian manufacturing industries are following Total productive maintenance (TPM) practices. TPM is a Japanese methodology to carry out the maintenance of the equipment in a predictive way. It aims at zero breaks down of equipment, zero accidents in the plant, and zero defects in the products Total quality management (TQM) is being practiced by many Indian industries to involve employees in the quality and productivity improvement projects, in turn, to satisfy the customers and gain a higher market share.
