Abstract
This paper reports an investigation on the effect of steel tire wire fibres on the early compressive strength and acid resistance of rubberized concrete. The mix design was obtained from the design expert software using crumb rubber and tire wire fibres as the variables. Compressive strength, weight loss, and water absorption were investigated. Experimental findings revealed that the addition of steel tyre wire fibres enhances the strength properties of the rubberised concrete and reduced its weight loss. The addition of 1% and 2% of tyre wire fibres enhanced the compressive strength by 29% and 13.6% and reduced its weight loss by 5.2%, and 27.1%. The presence of STW fibres has little influence on the water absorption of the rubberized concrete. Model equations were successfully established to predict the compressive strength, weight loss, and water resistance of tyre wire rubberized concrete. The significance of the models developed was validated using analysis of variance, and the response surface models developed were in good agreement with experimental results
