Abstract

In order to improve the wear and corrosion behaviour for the alloys, the coating is found as the most suitable method. Mg-base alloys have a wide range of industrial application. These alloys show a high specific strength but poor wear and corrosion resistance. In the present investigation, Ni-P coating was done on magnesium aluminium alloy composite by dipping the samples into Nickel sulphate bath during the presence of the surfactant. The mechanism of Ni-P deposits was studied by using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Effect of surfactant with the different amount on the corrosion behaviour was studied. Surfactants reduce the surface tension between the particles by reducing the chances of gathering selective laser sintering (SLS) and cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) resulting in the increase in the coating efficiency up to 90%. Proper concentration of the SLS and CTAB results in minimum contact angle and the proper wetting surface was obtained. Amount of proper concentration of the SLS and CTAB results in the reduction of the surface tension which may further results in the reduction of the priorities of electroless Ni-P coating from the surface.
