Abstract
A plate washer is a mechanical device for cleaning dishes and utensils. This can be used in restaurants and canteens, where identical plates and others dishes are used. Unlike manual plate washing, which relies largely on physical scrubbing to remove dirt and germs, the mechanical plate washer removes germs by spraying hot water, between 65 and 85 °C (150 and 185 °F) at the dishes, which kills germs and continuous spraying removes the germs completely. A mix of water and detergent is circulated by a pump and sprayed over the plate, followed by a scrubbing mechanism which removes the dirt of the plates. Then water is pumped through one or more spraying nozzles, which removes the soap solution and thus the plates are rinsed. Once the wash is finished, continuous supply of hot air at certain higher pressure is made to fall on the plate which helps in the process of draining and drying the plate. All this process is being carried on a specially designed conveyor system which is tilted slightly in such a way that the plates do not fall off. This additional feature helps in draining the excess water from the plate. A special feature in the plate washer is the plate stacker. This is a setup which helps in arranging the plates orderly and is also used for the transportation of washed plates from the machine to place where the food being served.
