Abstract
Four ruthenium (II) complexes of the type [RuCl(CO)(py)(PPh3)L] (L= thiosemicarbazone ligand) have been synthesized and the structural features were determined by various physico-chemical and spectral techniques. The thiosemicarbazone ligands act as bidentate, monobasic chelating ligands with S and N as the donor sites and are preferably found in thiol form in all the complexes studied. In order to ascertain the potential of the above synthesized complexes towards biomolecular interactions, titration experiments involving the interaction with CT-DNA were carried out by absorption spectroscopy which revealed that the ruthenium(II) complexes bind to DNA via intercalation.
