Abstract
Countess Aniela Konstancja Potulicka (1861-1932) is one of the outstanding representatives of the Greater Poland aristocracy. At the age of 19, she inheritedthe family estate. She was a well-educated woman, a passionate patriot and social activist. She never married and never started her own family. She devoted her entire life to serving ot her people, God and defending Polishness. In Prussian times, she conducted lively social and educational activities, which she continued afterWorld War I. She founded schools, founded churches, systematically and self-lessly supported institutions for orphans, the poor, the sick and fallen women. The greatest and most enduring achievements of Potulicka include contributing to the establishment of such institutions as: St. Florian in Bydgoszcz, The House of the Good Shepherd in Winiary, St. Lazarus in Poznań. The culmination of her socialactivity was the transfer of her property to the University in Lublin. Aniela Potulicka died on October 17, 1932 in Potulice. She is buried in a family tomb. Countess Aniela Potulicka was a quiet, modest person. She spoke rarely and little about herself. She believed that not words but actions speak about a person.Throughout her life, with great devotion she continued family tradition, in whichlove to homeland, readiness to self-sacrifice and faithfulness to Christian valueswere very important. She understood patriotic activity not only as an armed struggle, but also as a nurturing of the tradition of history that raise next generationsin the spirit of love for the lost homeland. She did not expect social recognitionfor her actions, the initiatives she implemented had to prove it.
