Ukrainian bibliographer K. I. Skokan: To the 100th anniversary of his birth

Abstract

The significant contribution of the Ukrainian bibliographer, Shevchenko scholar, author, co-author, compiler of thorough bibliographic works, employee of the bibliography department of the Central Scientific Library (V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine – VNLU) in the development of domestic bibliography has been studied.The way of life and creative work of K. I. Skokan are considered. The career of a bibliographer in the bibliography department of the Central Scientific Libraryof the USSR Academy of Sciences (VNLU) where she worked all her life – from 1945 to 1977 – as a librarian, bibliographer, senior bibliographer, head of sector, senior editor, chief bibliographer. Bibliographic works in which she is the author and co-author, which still remain important sources of valuable scientific information, have been identified and analyzed.The work of K. I. Skokan, the head of the catalog sector of the State PublicLibrary of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, in the Library Science Commis-sion, which was a part of the Library Council under the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, is covered. Kateryna Іeronymivna also had a social workload – she gave lectures on her favorite bibliography in the Knowledge Society and for students of advanced training courses.The influence of a man – an outstanding bibliographer Yu. O. Mezhenko – on the scientific work of Kateryna Іeronymivna, in particular, the development of methods for compiling biobibliographic indexes.The further fate of the books that her husband collected all his life has been clarified. It turned out that after the death of Kateryna Іeronymivna in 1977, the remaining books and documents were transported to the Central Scientific Libraryof the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Further research of the bibliographic heritage of K. I. Skokan is offered.
