The Control Function of Library Information Centers in Social Communications with Islamic Associations

The article explores the potential of the Ukrainian library institutions in the context of exercising control functions during social communications with Muslim state and non-governmental organizations. In today's context, there is a process of politicization of Islam that is affecting the Muslim minority of Ukraine. One of the main tools of Islamist propaganda is the print media that adherents of political Islam seek to disseminate, in particular through libraries. Today, the issue of Muslim radicalism is becoming one of the major problems of national and public security.Library and information centers, such as the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, could be considered by those who may concern as one of the most interesting sites to spread radical Islamist literature. In this case, not only the possibilities of replenishing books with relevant literature, but also the library active exhibition activity are could be taken into account. For example, during one or another exhibition on Muslim topics, books by Yu Kardavi and other apologists of Islam could be presented to readers. At the same time, the very names of Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine the highest authorities, as a leaders of well-known and reputable library and scientific center, could have an additional impact on the visitor.Against this background, the issue of optimizing the control of library information resources is being updated. Based on the foregoing, it should be noted that:– in modern conditions, the process of expanding social communications of Ukraine with Muslim state and non-state structures is irreversible;– given the specifics of the Islamic world, it should be born in mind that print media are an important element of social communication;– today, some Muslim publications are overtly Islamist;– to prevent the spread of Islamist literature through the capabilities of the Library and Information Centers of Ukraine, the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine can monitor print media coming from abroad or printed by Muslim organizations in Ukraine.
