Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to study the activity of higher educational institutions in Kyiv in the XIXth century, namely the cooperation between Kyiv Theological Academy and St. Volodymyr University in Kyiv in the sphere of research and education and in organization of educational and support institutions, including the libraries. The methodology of the study involves historical and comparative methods, as well as methods of source analysis. Studying the successful interaction of the two educational institutions – the spiritual and the secular – made it possible to prove the leading role of the Kyiv Theological Academy in the creation of the philosophy and religious schools at St. Volodymyr University in Kyiv and to establish the influence of the Academy teachers on the formation of the theological department in the fundamental University library. The subject of the study is the library of Archpriest Nazarii Favorov which was presented to the University. The best Kyiv Spiritual Academy graduates were not only teachers in Kyiv University, but also founded own schools in scholarship. Students of the Kyiv Theological Academy actively supplemented the collections of the fundamental university library with their own works and books on theological topics from their private libraries. The theological department of the University fundamental library was sufficiently supplemented by the Academy staff members, such as N. A. Favorov, S. T. Golubev and others. The bibliological analysis of books from the part of N. A. Favorov library shown the professional interests of the former owner, which were significantly inferior to his spiritual vocation. The display of information on provenience marks in the books bibliographic records into the electronic catalog of Automated Libraries System IRBIS-64 will significantly speed up the search for books from the N.A. Favorov library in other libraries.
