The history of Russia in the mirror of Russian satire

This article is devoted to the analysis of the techniques of creating artistic parody in the little-studied satirical work of the famous Russian writer of the 19th century A. K. Tolstoy "The History of the Russian state from Gostomysl to Timashev". The article defines the content of the concept of "satire "and" parody " in their close relationship, gives a general overview of the content of the work, focuses on the main artistic features characteristic of Tolstoy-parodist. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the appeal to the work of A. K. Tolstoy in the context of a satirical reinterpretation of historical reality. As a result of the research, general trends in the works of A. K. Tolstoy and M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, determined by the writer's civic position, are revealed.
