The Level of Critical Thinking among Students of Zarqa University according to the California Test of Critical Thinking Skills and Its Relation to Some Variables

Abstract

The aim of this study is to reveal the level of critical thinking among Zarqa University students according to the California test of critical thinking skills and its relation to some variables. The study population was the students of Zarqa University for the first semester of the academic year 2016/2017 and the random sample of (387) first year students and the third of all university faculties. The researchers used the descriptive method; the study tool is the California test of critical thinking skills, which was modified to the Jordanian environment. The test was applied and corrected, and the data was monitored and computerized. The statistical averages, standard deviations and ANOVA were calculated to answer the question and examine the hypothesis of the study. The arithmetic mean of critical thinking among Zarqa University students was in accordance with the California Critical Thinking Skills Test (13.58) and the mean is medium according to the mean average. The researchers recommended that the curriculum be structured to reflect the critical thinking skills of students, support decisions to include critical thinking subjects in study plans, and conduct similar studies in other settings.
