Abstract
The aim of the present paper is to analyze the salient linguistic features of a popular song of Tagore: megh boleche jabo jabo .It should be noted that this study is confined only to the poetic aspect of the song; the musical aspect is excluded. We have interpreted this song as a poetic creation based on the underlying theme of union of the finite and the infinite --- a major theme in the universe of Tagorean thought. This song implicitly suggests the attainment of a state of enlightment where the dividing line between joy and sorrow, finite and infinite, life and death is blurred. We have attempted to bring out the hidden message by reading between the lines and carrying out an in depth study of the constituent elements of the song at various levels: lexical, morpho-syntactic and semantic
