Abstract

The aim of the present paper is to analyze the salient linguistic features of a popular song of Tagore: megh boleche jabo jabo .It should be noted that this study is confined only to the poetic aspect of the song; the musical aspect is excluded. We have interpreted this song as a poetic creation based on the underlying theme of union of the finite and the infinite --- a major theme in the universe of Tagorean thought. This song implicitly suggests the attainment of a state of enlightment where the dividing line between joy and sorrow, finite and infinite, life and death is blurred.
