Abstract
The article is devoted to the 170th anniversary of the I. Kamanin's birth and the 100th anniversary of his death. I. Kamanin is famous Ukrainian historian, archivist, archeographer and paleographer of the end of 19 – the beginning of 20 centuries. The aim of the article is to cover the life path, key stages of the scientist's career as an active representative of the scientifi c elite of Ukraine on the basis of a set of archival documents, memoirs, correspondence, published works and manuscripts. Research methods. The article is based on the principles of historicism, objectivity and system. General scientifi c, historical and source research methods such as analytical, logical, synthetic, retrospective, problem-chronological, comparative-historical, archeographic, biographical, critical heuristic and others are used. Scientifi c novelty. The thematic range and content of I. Kamanin's works are analyzed. Information potential of some historical archivistical and archeographical works of scientist was discovered. Some facts of the researcher's biography were specifi ed. There is particular information about the last years of his life, descendants, etc. The documents of State Archives of Kyiv Region for research of scientifi c activity of researcher during 1918–1920 years are put in supplements to article. Conclusions. The importance of scientifi c activity of I. Kamanin for the formation and development of Ukrainian historiography, source studies, archival studies, paleography, archeography during the end of 19 – the beginning of 20 century is determined. The value of the scientifi c heritage of the scientist as a historical and historiographical sources is generalized. The key features of the prosopographic portrait of the researcher are determined. His relations with contemporaries and attitude to the events and changes of his epoch to the results of his own work are analyzed. Perspective for further research. I. Kamanin's scientifi c activity and his works deserve the suitable honor and republication and wider introduction to scientifi c circulation.
