Lexicographic analysis of toponyms (based on the material of the dictionary "Collins Concise Dictionary", 4th Edition, 2005)

This article is devoted to the lexicographic analysis of the monolingual explanatory dictionary "Collins Concise Dictionary” (2005). In this paper, geographical names are taken into account and their lexicographic development is analyzed. The choice of the research topic is determined by the interest in the selection and description of various types of toponyms in the dictionary “Collins Concise Dictionary”. The purpose of the work is to investigate the features of the fixation and processing of English toponyms in the dictionary for general purposes. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to perform the following tasks: to conduct a historical and typological study of the lexicography of proper names in this dictionary, to analyze the lexicographic processing of input units.
