EFFECT OF GREEN HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PRACTICE: EMPLOYEE ONLINE TRAINING AND ADAPTABILITY IN DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS IN SOUTH-SOUTH, NIGERIA

Abstract
This study examined the going green human resource management practice of employee online training and employee adaptability in selected deposit money banks in South-South, Nigeria. This study adopted survey design. The population of the study is made up of management staff of the six (6) selected deposit money banks with international authorisation in Nigeria. The population of the study is 2,119. The sample size of the study was determined using Cochran formula for finite populations to arrive at 507. The instruments used for data collection were structured questionnaire and interview guide. Data were collected using the copies of structured questionnaire that were designed on 5-point Likert scale which were distributed to the deposit money banks under study. 507 copies of the questionnaire were prepared and distributed; 500 copies were returned while 7 of the questionnaires were not returned. The result shows that employee online training has a significant positive effect on employee adaptability in deposit money banks in South-South, Nigeria (Z = -7.603, p < 0.05). The conclusion is that green human resource management practice is necessary for developing, implementing and maintaining systems aimed at making the activities of employees of organisations green or environmentally friendly; organisations that pay attention to the greening of human factors reduce employee carbon footprints, become more productive, thus gaining a higher competitive advantage. The study recommends that management of deposit money banks should ensure that online training is put in place. This is because employee adaptability, which is employee's ability to handle changing demand in the circumstances, uncertainty and stress, empowers them to be more productive and maintain green environment.
