Abstract

The present paper aims to describe the causative verb formation of Konyak Language. It belongs to the Tibeto-Burman Language family, and not much work has been done in this language. This paper will be the first of its kind in the realm of linguistic research. Konyak language has different type of verbs which can be causativized with the help of various inflections. Most of the Konyak causative constructions are of productive morphological processes where the causative suffix is added in the root of the transitive or intransitive verb and consequently, increases the thematic structure of the verb receiving different case markers. The causativization can be done directly or indirectly in this language. In Konyak, it is also found that the causative is morphologically derived from the basic inchoative construction, and lexical causatives are limited in distribution. The few lexical causatives found are formed by the process of suppletion and by change of the toneme. Therefore, this paper will mainly focus on how the basic process of causativization works in Konyak and will also present the illustration of the valency increasing operation of different forms of verb.
