Abstract
It is shown that stray current may propagate along conductive layers in the soil creating measurable magnetotelluric anomalies. A wide range of measurement methodologies are explored, including cross-sectional magnetic survey, which proves capable of both identifying and charting stray current propagating magnetotelluric anomalies. The effects of physical disconnection of the conductive strata are explored in relation to development of mitigative strategies for stray current, and it is shown that physical disconnection of the conductive strata yields attenuation values between -48db and -60dB
