Abstract
Diabetes mellitus consider one of the major health problems all around the world today. Diabetes is characterized by hyperglycemia with an increase of glucose in blood. Studies on animals have shown that more than 400 plant species have hypoglycemic activity. Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum) is one of the most common medicinal plants used for diabetes. After chemical profiling of Fenugreek’s components, their biological activities including anti-diabetes were reported by many investigators. Fenugreek exhibits the beneficial effects due to presence the fiber and galactomannan rich fraction present in the seed. As a result, current studies have been performed mostly focusing on the bioactivity of fenugreek toward the recently generalized metabolic disorder involving diabetes. In this review article, we provide an overview of the recent literature describing Fenugreek ’s potential for preventing the diabetes mellitus.
