Abstract
Ethanol production from biomass is an economically feasible process that requires microorganisms which produces ethanol with a high yield from all sugars. Different fermentation organisms among bacteria, yeasts, and fungi (natural as well as recombinant) have been reviewed with emphasis on their performance in fermentation of biomass. Depending on the type of biomass, the process of pre-treatment, fermentation and selection of microorganisms have shown to differ.
