Abstract
2-Hydroxy-4-methoxy, acetophenone thiosemicarbazone is proposed as a new reagent for the spectrophotometric determination of palladium (II) and platinum (IV). At pH 6.0 pd (II) forms an instantaneous 1:2 complex at room temperature and has maximum absorbance at 360 nm. Pt (IV) forms 1:2 complexes on heating with maximum absorbance at 360 nm. Both the complexes are stable and conforms Beer's law. The molar absorptivities for Pd (II) and Pt (IV) complexes are 16950 and 140251 mol-1 cm-1 respectively. The proposed methods are suitable for the determination of Pd (II) or Pt (IV) in the presence of associated metal ions. The solid complexes are isolated and are characterized by various physicochemical techniques.
