Abstract
The issues of the foregrounding theory are examined and its characteristics are analyzed in the present article. Degree of participation in this theory of such phenomena as defeated expectancy and the paradox phenomenon is revealed and proved. On the basis of the conducted study, the various linguistic approaches to this issue are regarded.
